Dr. Margarita Kokla, is an Assistant Professor at the School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering (SRSE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) specializing in “Cartography and Geographic Information Science with an emphasis on Geospatial Semantics”. She holds a Diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineering (1998) from NTUA, an MSc (2000) in Geoinformatics and a PhD (2005) in Semantic Interoperability in Geographic Information Science from the same institution. In 2005, she received the Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation Prize for her work in knowledge representation and engineering in the geospatial domain. She was chair of ISPRS WG IV/2: Ontologies, Semantics, and Knowledge Representation for Geospatial Information (2016-2022). She has participated in various research programs in Geoinformatics. She has co-authored three books and over 70 publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings with over 950 citations and has also served as a reviewer in scientific journals. Her research interests include semantic representation of geospatial knowledge, geospatial ontologies, cybercartography, and multimodal/multisensory geovisualizations.
