Dr. Margarita Kokla, is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering (SRSE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in the field of Cartography and Geographic Information Science with a special interest in Geospatial Semantics. She holds a Diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineering (1998) from NTUA. She has also obtained an MSc (2000) in Geoinformatics and a PhD (2005) in Semantic Interoperability in Geographic Information Science from the same School. In 2005, she received the Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation Prize in recognition of her work in knowledge representation and engineering in the geospatial domain. She is chair of ISPRS WG IV/2: Ontologies, Semantics, and Knowledge Representation for Geospatial Information (2016-2020). She has participated in various research programs in Geoinformatics. She has co-authored two books and 48 publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings with over 650 citations and has also served as a reviewer in scientific journals. Her research interests include geospatial semantics, geospatial ontologies, extraction of geospatial semantic information, semantic integration and interoperability, geospatial thinking, and geovisualization.
